Bell for Cycling

With so many walkers on the roads and tracks these days, I need to get a bell for my bike. Ideally something low-profile but loud enough to be heard.

Any recommendations?

My offspring bought me a Spurcycle Original a couple of years back, which is fitted to my 'good' bike, an 1986 Merckx.

It's a thing of loveliness.

Beautiful sound that carries well and lasts for ages.

I would never have bought one myself and I would consider anyone spending 50 quid on a bell for a bike, to be in need of psychiatric support of some sort!

OP: any bike shop will have a selection, starting at about a fiver; go in and ring them all.....they'll love you for that :-)

The lowest-profile bell seems to be the Knog Oi, though a lot of people say it isn't very loud.

I like Japanese brass ones, but if you fancy spending a lot of money, Spurcycle have a reputation for loudness and quality.

Watched a few YouTube videos of that knog oi and it's poor quality. Falls apart pretty easily. I think whatever the bike shop hand you when you ask for a bell is probably better

I've one like the crane on my gravel bike/ commuter, although mine came from ali! Loud enough, and works well on the gravel/ trails. Less well commuting, but that's more the issue of people with headphones in.

Yeah, I think the earlier ones were a bit plasticky, but the more recent ones look like this

Second and sadly true but its probably for the best.

I suppose this is because riding with kids changes the calculus, and while I may not be afraid for myself, deep down I’m still probably afraid for them.

My fixed gear self righteous hipster days are probably best left behind me. I survived my mid life crisis, still have the beard, the time to be thankful I made it and play it more cautious arrived a few years ago.
