Is this a filter or does it need cleaning.

Would a blow down pipe not come from higher on the engine above the head, from the rocker cover area ??

Me either in fairness, breathers I’ve seen on rocker covers is why I said that.

A crankcase breather would be further down the block

Looks like a crankcase breather filter

I assume that engine is air cooled?
