    I'd say theres a good there the 'live' in and out are crossed

    More likely the feed and switch wires are mixed up, assuming the unit itself is ok.

    Just connecting L and N wrong way round it should still work. And the N seems to be into the N terminal anyway.

    Maybe the light unit has a separate neutral, so mixing up L & N wont work.

    But maybe that earth isnt really... I cant see any reason why the earth would be looped with no neutral loop.
    Hopefully its just broken off... :eek:
