Honda CRV engine warning light

I have a 2016 Honda CRV 1.6 diesel -130,000kms. DPF light came on-tried driving it on motorway as recommended but it would not reset automatically. Local garage (exhaust specialist with a good rep) did a 'forced regeneration' and light went off. Next day engine light comes on and garage plugs it in and shows me it needs a mass air sensor replaced which they do. Next day after driving about 50kms engine light is back-drop it in and they rest everything, test drive it for the day and no more lights-happy days!

I pick it up and engine light comes back on straight away.

I was hoping to change the car but want to get this sorted-any ideas?

Sounds like replacing the MAF sensor didn't fix the problem. Without knowing the fault codes it's impossible to say.

They shouldnt have changed the MAF sensor - it doesnt give problems on these (usually)

More than likely its either of the NOX sensors on the exhaust - probably the lower one but we usually sell both in equal amounts.

Are you getting a dpf light or does it say "pgmfi" on the dash?

If its pgmfi its not dpf related - if it looks like a cloud of smoke then its dpf related.

Needs to go to a Honda dealer to be sure.

Honda dealer is my next call. No dpf warning light just engine light. I hope to quiz them to see exactly what the code is when I collect it today. Are the exhaust sensors expensive? Thanks

Engine light is different than dpf light on these - they have a dedicated dpf warning light.

There is one thing you can check quite easily - the pipe going from the top of the air box - looks like an accordion. Check if theres a rip or hole in it usually underneath when you look at it from the top. That will cause all the symptoms youre describing. It also makes mechanics who arent familiar with the problem think its the MAF sensor and they usually replace it and the problem is actually the pipe.

Got sorted. The new sensor was actually faulty , swapped it out and no more lights. (:

Good to hear. Its a strange one though. I don't think Ive ever fitted one to a crv. Its usually the pipe ripped that gives the trouble code for the maf sensor.

Id still check that pipe as I suspect the light will come back on after hard acceleration.

    Will do. Thanks

This seems to be fixed now. In hindsight I think it may have been faulty for a while before the warning light came on as the MPG was not as good as it was in the past (I was blaming the age of the car and my driving) but it has definitely improved since replacing the sensor. Also acceleration has improved.
