Cold frame advice

Hi, I've constructed a very rough cold frame in my allotment with some sheets of glass, breeze blocks and old wood. It is far from air tight with some large gaps at the sides. These are a fair few inches wide. Do these gaps mean the cold frame is a waste of time?
