Anyone have experience with the likes of these? Like those here

Possibly looking for something that I can carry a bike on as well as a bag/box for luggage etc.

Unfortunately not in a position to use roof mounted storage, so looking at these as an alternative.

You need to check the max tow bar load of your vehicle first before buying.

Not what your tow bar says, but what the car maker says.

Some cars are limited to 50 kg or even lower. Between the carrier, the bike and the box that doesn't leave all that much room for luggage.

It might be very easy to overload the tow bar and then find that the driving dynamics of your vehicle have changed drastically with so much weight at the far back acting like a pendulum.

It might turn out cheaper and more effective to buy a cheap second hand small trailer like this

you could always fix a bike rack to that.

    Thanks for the replies.
Seems to be 100kg max load for tow bar for an Alhambra, but the highest load mentioned for any of the racks I've found so far is 75kg. That would still give decent scope for luggage even with a bike included.

I was interested to hear from anyone who might have personal experience with one.

Like adding a trailer won't change the driving dynamics

Ive a Buzz rack platform - was a bit cheaper than the Thule but can carry four bikes and has a tilt function so you can access the boot too. Never noticed any major change to driving dynamics either and have driven motorway speed with four bikes on it

Is it a specific one for bikes, or a general one that you can add accessories to for carrying bikes? Roughly what weight do you think you've carried on it?

It’s for bikes but can’t see why you couldn’t strap other stuff to it. I’ve probably carried max 60kg - Ie four mountain bikes
