Laptop not turning on

My laptop randomly turned off last night and now it won't turn back on, when I hold down the power button it sort of sound like a car ticking over, like it's trying to power itself up but never gets going

It's a Lenovo ideapad z570, now it's nearly 10 years old so I was planning on getting a new one anyway but I'm just interested in finding out how much it would cost to fix? And if I'd be able to get any of my saved docs from it?

seems to be a conclusion there of a motherboard failure so dead laptop basically as not economical to replace the whole motherboard

if nothing at all is coming on screen and you can't even enter bios (google for your model how) then it's not just your hard-drive gone

you can get at the files by removing your hard drive and putting it into a sata 3 hard-drive enclosure and attaching to usb on another laptop. files will be in the users folder. you'll probably need your windows password to access them

not sure what that means tbh - replacement of some part of the voltage management system of the laptop

Thanks, ya sorry I know it's a fairly vague description but that's all there really is

I'll probably just buy a new one so and take the hard drive out the old one, like I said it's nearly 10 years old anyway so can't really complain

Does sound like it's the voltage problem above.

You could ask a knowledgeable repair place how much that would cost to replace the 3 volt and 5 volt integrated circuits for power voltage management on the motherboard

Could take them a while to source if not a standard item

If the motherboard goes on a laptop and it has a tpm chip for bit locker, is it possible to get access to the hard drive again

I temporary sorted similar issue on Lenovo by removing battery for a few days before powering again.

I eventually got around to doing this, got a hard-drive enclosure and out my old hard drive into, hooked it up to my new laptop, I can see all my old flies except for the ones I had saved on my Desktop

The Desktop comes up on the hard drive but when I click on it it says this folder is empty, any ideas of how I could get the files that were saved there?
