Battery replacement

As with a lot of people recently my car hasn't been driven a lot due to lockdown and we've had some cold weather

So there have been some "battery low" warnings which I get rid of with a spin up the motorway

Should i just replace the battery? The only reason I'm having second thoughts is it's a Stop Go battery and they look to cost 300 euro and difficult to find.
    Car is 7 years old.

If it's the original battery I would replace it, if you get 5 years good life out of one you are doing well.

    Thanks for the feedback
Any comments on Halfords for batteries?

Yes their own brand is fine. Have a look at the warranty period, some are 5 years, others 2, worth getting the longer period brand. They also sell Bosch and Yuasa which are both good. You may need to specify stop/start when buying to be sure it's correct.

It's worth checking the main dealer for the brand of car you have too, sometimes cheaper.

I got a stop start battery in Halfords a few months ago for my insignia, think it was 220 and I got a bit of a discount with the axa card/cert.

Cheers, I don't know why I thought they were particularly expensive, maybe last time I googled I ended up at micks garage or somewhere.

they have to be coded in though dont they / stop start ?

I had my EFB replaced after 5 years with an AGM and it had to be coded.

I would not rush to change the battery based on the info provided. I would have it recharged fully before deciding replacement. My own stop/start battery has shown up a few warnings but an overnight charge brings it back to life. Frequent starts, short journeys and lights on etc run down batteries very quickly.

Thanks but is that not just delaying the inevitable, if most people change the battery after 5 years? The car is due a service anyhow and I would expect to get another 2 or 3 years at least out of it (touch wood).

Not sure that most people change their battery after five years. I certainly don’t, more like 8 to to
10 years I would think. My own battery is over 5 years.

Have a 08 van running the original battery. The last cold spell showed its age with slow turning whille starting so I'll change this year.
