Just browsing car parts and came across a 28kwh battery for 6k. Would it be a good price / worthwhile for a pv system?

Depends on what you compare it to.

Ali Express batteries are around 120-130€ /kwh
But that's bare cells. Build everything yourself

Plyontech etc are around 300-350€/kwh but they are plug and play.

That is about middle of the road, are they bare cells or are they packaged up with a bms?

Bad price. Sure you can buy a complete Nissan Leaf (including its 24kWh battery pack) with tax and test for €3.5k :D

28kWh brand new from AliExpress with a BMS and all other parts you need costs a bit over €3k landed as graememk said

Any links to these cells/BMS? Looking to upgrade my battery - though I guess its probably not possible to mix and match DIY with commerical - as I assume the BMS must be cooridinated?
