    hi,

we're looking to change TV, our current one is acting up.we have a 42" buy are looking at either a 55" or 65".

We have a few ideas on what models we want(something with future proofing for gaming) but my main concern is actually getting into a shop to view the TVs as a family. i want to have a look at the size of a 55 versus a 65 to see how it might look in the room. we have the room for either.
Is it classed as an essential purchase ? any shops which are welcoming to such customers ?
bit of an odd query, i know, but we don't want to be plonking in somewhere and then be looked at like we have 2 heads. Although the government might disagree, we see it as essential(help stop us cracking up)

    many thanks

    Harvey Norman is still open.
Sure other electrical retailers are too.

Viewing it in the showroom isn't great, totally different to your set up at home. I completely understand the wanting to see it though. Showrooms are designed for optimal performance, you or I probably won't have that. I was in Harvey Norman a few months ago for an iPad, it was fine to walk around I had a look at TVs when I was waiting.

I've thought about a similar purchase, the kids have gouged a hole in my current TV screen, but it still works and isn't visible when in use so I'm ok for a little while.

Have you checked the reviews on YouTube? Search what the shops have, and then research independently, some of the specs on the websites may not be correct, or sufficient like "Speakers - 2" that means nothing, they could be excellent or terrible.

My local Expert Electrical store is open. Not a massive selection of TVs but certainly enough for comparisons sake.

I would imagine all of their stores nationwide are open.

    Hi,

i have a good idea of the spec i want, it reallly is just to see how a 55 would compare to a 65 in the spac where it's going. i guess i really just want to stand the distance back from where we would be seated and see what i think.

fyi here's the models i'm looking at

https://powercity.ie/product/65BX6 or CX model, but either would want to drop a few hundred in price

    https://www.elara.ie/productdetail.aspx?productcode=MME406A806

    https://www.did.ie/samsung-q80-65-4k-hdr-qled-smart-tv-black-qe65q80tatxxu-qe65q80tatxxu-prd

i'll probably get the LG nano 9 series in the middle cos it's cheapest :)
i got a monitor off elara a few years back so would use again

DID are most convienient for me to purchase off though so could just go with the samsung

if i find the 65 is to big, i'll probably go with the LG BX series in 55"

feic, i have 2 in primary school, so you're putting the fear in me now regarding your tv with a hole in it ! :)

My older one has broken a window hinge, burst a paddling pool(seem to think the cat would like a swim), tried to crack her own skull by cycling under the trampoline at speed, they keep breaking sweeping brushes without doing much sweeping !!! they decided the house needed mud pies thrown at it the other day .... etc etc etc

It's like they've slit it with a stanely blade! The TV seems to have a clear plastic perspex like screen over it, I have no idea how it is still working perfectly. It was an expensive Sony about 8/9 years ago when Netflix launched here, first telly I ever seen with a Netflix button on the remote. Kids also trashed the remote, but I have an app for a remote now. I really need a new TV.

Class looking tellys, some discount on the Samsung!

I’d recommend asking the lads in the richersounds.ie forum here for advice. Plenty of satisfied customers of theirs on here. I bought my TV from them last year (55” Philips Ambilight, very happy with it), they give a 6 year warranty with their sales, which is much better than anything you will get for DID or PowerCity.

    I’d highly recommend them anyway.

I'd second that. They're very good.
