    Hi all,

Sorry if this question has already been asked on here.

The wifi on the gigabox isn’t great to say the least and im thinking of picking up some kind of access point or mesh system improve my range.

The problem i have heard from people on here is that Vodafone dont provide the VOIP login details so its not possible to connect from the ONT. i taught i could use bridge mode but apparently that also disables the tel ports( for some bizarre reason?!)

Im not even sure if you can use Vodafone tv with meshes.

    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Just add couple WI-Fi APs and disable WiFi on Gigabox.
You could set any Mesh system into AP mode.
Unless you could move Gigabox in different location to improve coverage, middle of the house etc. You only need upgrade Ethernet cable from ONT to Gigabox in this case ( you could use up to 100m cable if needed)

Ah so the TP link M4 should work nicely then? Am i right in saying that a wifi mesh is different to a router so I shouldn’t run into any nat issues?

Mesh systems in general have two modes, router and access point. If you configure as an AP you will not have any nat issues.

Not a performance champ , but if you don’t care for the speeds , only coverage , should do the trick.
(I would say 150-200 mbps top speed, unless you connect 3 units of Deco with Ethernet cables )
As previous poster mentioned, as long as you switch Deco into AP mode , double NAT won’t be the issue.

Does it work better with Ethernet backhaul?

I think it should go up to 500 mbps wireless, not sure.
I would think about this one :
    https://eir-store.ie/collections/connected-living/products/smartwifi?variant=39416964284606
Eir claiming it is WIFI 6 device ,if it is true, €170 it is nothing really.
It is kinda brand new , only came out few weeks ago , no one knows real life performance yet :)

Certainly looks interesting. If it had Ethernet backhaul it would really good. It has a very competitive price.

If you ok with Ethernet Backhaul why wouldn’t you go Pro?

Its looks complicated as hell to set up and im pretty sure a computer needs to be constantly running it. My house isnt big enough to justify it. Most of my devices i need for bandwidth are hardwired anyway. Its just my other wireless devices like phones and tablets. I may just get one good deco and run it in ap mode since its only one side of the house that struggles with wifi.

Edit: i just copped on that wont work. I may just need to buy a two pack.

You don't need a computer to be constantly running to use Unifi APs - you can set them up using an app on your phone and forget about them.

It isn’t complicated, one Unifi AP might even serve all your house Or just to add another one after. It is running by PoE , you could just mount AP on a top of a ceiling only with Ethernet cable and connect PowerOverEthernet .
Two APs would work like mesh.
Only thing , you need to get solid copper Ethernet cable to use PoE,not CCA.
Major difference between Unifi Long Range and Unifi Lite AP is 4x4MIMO vs 2x2 MIMO
