Gripe issue

I am just wondering if anyone would know the way this might work?
There is a small piece of land beside us that I always thought was part of the field next door. A gripe divides ours and this piece of land. But recently a local told us that its part of ours and the farmer next door dug the gripe to drain the field.

How do I prove that this is ours?
Can we fill it in to make it part of our garden?

Can you check if it’s on your folio?

    Is it Landdirect.ie ?

    Will that show the details?

How long have you owned the house/ site. I would've thought the solicitor would've checked all that when you bought. Any chance someone is trying to stir trouble. It happens.

The land folio will show the map alright

The Land Folio isn't legally binding either. The country is full of errors. My next door neighbour has his boundary going right tru the middle of his house. Should I tell him I own half his house. :D
Old maps are a start. They show the boundaries going back 100s of years.
