Tie rod ends

While the weather is nice I said I'd put my car up on jack stands and have a look at the four corners. The suspension for the most part is in pretty good shape for 220,000km. I did notice however there has been a knock coming from the front lately. Control arm bushings and ball joint are good, and the sway bar links and bushes have been changed only a few months ago. I checked the tie rod ends and you can swivel them by hand easily enough, also the rubber is separating from where it connects to the steering knuckle. Both sides are like this but the car is tracking straight and no uneven wear on tyres, have I just caught this in time or are they okay for another while? I'll try to add photos and a video below.

IF you jack up the front wheels , one at a time and when the weight is off the wheel catch wheel at ' quarter to three' position and see if you can detect any play/faint knock.
At early stages can be hard to detect - you may feel or hear the knock. Then you have to determine if it's the track rod end or the tie rod (where it's attached to steering rack).
In one of the pics the grease looks brownish which may indicate water ingress causing rust and possibly wear.
