As a way of identifying scaldys, they’re great.

    Dangerous pieces of shhhh.

They don't all grip the wheel, can give you a nasty surprise if you need to make a sharp steering adjustment.

    And they are tack..

Haven't seen one in years, I didn't know you could still get them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 186 ✭✭Jmccoy1

I use one. I work with industrial diamond grits, it do be impregnated in my hands, so it's either use a cover which can be cheaply replaced every so often, or watch my steering wheel slowly go to crap, not so cheap to replace.

Why not look into getting it re-covered in leather.

Got a leather one from MrSteering for about €30 postage inc.- excellent product that you sew on yourself (easier than you think provided you watch a few YouTube tutorials).

They look awesome. But only in a car fitted with a Dukes o’ Hazzard horn, fluffy dice, a CB radio, one of those spinny yokes fitted to the steering wheel that lets you spin it around one-handed, and an ‘I Shot JR’ bumper sticker.

On its own though? Nah. They look crap.

I've a neoprene one as my wheel has a lot of wood and it gets slippy the odd time, the neoprene grips fine. I couldn't be bothered to get the steering wheel recovered.

Great if on a wheel that comes in for punishment - farmers jeep, builders van etc.

    Awful tack otherwise.

Would also be interested to know this. I have a ford galaxy with a lot of miles on the clock that could really do with a wheel refresh let’s say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,432 ✭✭✭Damokc

I got it on AliExpress for the kingly sum of 13e. Takes a bit of patience to do it but it looks good after.
I saw a post last night on a Ford page on Facebook, some crowd charging £140 plus p+p to do it using the exact kits from China. I called them out. The post has been deleted since.

I have a new Tarraco with the factory leather steering wheel, but the stitching is tearing the skin off the tops of my fingers.
needs something done with it..Any other suggestions ?

My leather steering wheel started to crumble apart a few years ago after 260,000 miles. Ebay stitch on cover is still on it 4 years later and matches very well.

Nope, it goes on over. It's only about 2mm so doesn't make it "thick". You get double sided tape that will stop any movement but it's a tight fit anyway.

You can actually get alcantara ones!

A bit of saddle soap or leather food would be better.

I have one on my winter car as the original leather was in very poor condition. I bought it in TK max, it’s leather effect and extremely tight fitting, there’s no way it’ll ever slip/move. It’s purely to cover up the poor condition of the original wheel and not for styling or anything else.
