VAT returns

I have a side business that I have not taken any wage from nor have I registered for VAT as I had not reached the VAT threshold.
I've turned over €50,000 so far this year so it looks like I will definitely reach it this year.
Whats the best way to keep the cost of these VAT retunrs down to a minimum asides from doing the whole lot myself?!
Can a bookkeeper do VAT returns?
Would that be the cheapest option?

When I have established the business I will get my accountant to do the full amount but until then I am looking to keep costs down.

    Thanks
