Need help with reverse camera install

Had a go at installing a reverse camera myself to an android head unit and I'm having no luck. The head unit goes into camera mode anyways when in reverse so I said I'd put a camera in and make use of it but it's still just a black screen with camera connected. Have the red wireconnected to purple and black wire in harness for power and black connected to brown wire for ground, followed a video on my car for that. Then connected the yellow RCA cable to video out and the red wire there to wire marked REVERSE on the radio harness. Have tried googling and not sure what the issue is

Are you saying the head unit flicks into reverse showing a black screen before you even started this?
If its doing that, surely its just yellow cable and camera power.
Could you connect the camera power to battery temporary to see if you get picture

I've parking sensors so by default the head unit when I go into reverse goes into a black screen with parking sensors displaying on one side and the other side is black with the lines for reverse camera so when I connected the camera the picture should display where the lines are for the reverse camera. How would I go about connecting to battery for power? I connected the red wire that sits beside the yellow cable into the "REVERSE IN" wire on the harness. From googling it seems most people say that's not needed once there's a canbus box.

The camera power lead i assume has a red and black wire.
Can you just put those onto battery to see

Not that I know a whole lot about electronics and cameras but should the yellow RCA cable not be connected to Video IN for the radio? I would imagine that the signal needs to come in through that port, not go out.... but I'm just guessing
