Who is responsible for fire safety standards

Hi, currently building an extension using a party wall with a neighbour. I’ve an architect who designed it and an engineer who designed the steelworks. Architect has told me the engineer should ensure the structure collies with fire safety standard, and engineer has said “architect to confirm it complies with fire safety standard”.

Who should make the final call on this? Obviously as homeowner I hold end responsibility for how to instruct the builder, but I’m unsure whose advice to follow

Have you engaged both the architect and engineer for the construction stages of the project?

Yes architect did the drawings for planning permission, engineer is doing the structural drawing now before we start the build

Engineer will be doing the certification, does that answer my question?

    Yes in my opinion.
Steel needs to be fire proofed depending on what part of the building it’s holding up. The penetration into the party wall should be avoided.

I hope the party wall is solid block on the flat!

    Did anybody do construction drawings/specifications?

If architect only did design/planning drawings, and if engineer is doing 'sign off' for you, then I would suggest engineers responsibility to make sure the works comply with the building regulations.

    yes

ask the engineer to include for applicable fire proofing in his spec of the steel
