Been looking at Subaru Impreza wrx STI DCCD on DoneDeal (cant post link as im a new user)
and wondering are they expensive to run?

Like how often to get serviced? As it has been mapped to 310bhp is there more than just getting it serviced too? I'm not worried about tax or insurance but just enquiring maintenance costs more.

I also asked the same question in another post but do these cars need obligatory engine rebuilds over time? If so please provide info if you can.

Hi pope, I have an 06 2.5 litre sti as my daily. I’ve done about 12k miles in it since around this time last year and it hasn’t once let me down. With a mixture of motorway and town driving I’m getting around 23mpg.

I get mine serviced every 3k miles with Fuchs oil. If the timing belt needs to be done this can be a bit more expensive than a normal car as obviously you have 2 sets of cams etc. And make sure the garage doing it have experience with subarus!

If its a jdm 2 litre you’re looking at then they’re meant to be bulletproof, although you won’t have the scooby burble with the equal length headers. The UK 2 litre is meant to be a little less reliable, but still better than the 2.5. The torque in the 2.5 is unbelievable though, mine is 500Nm at 3500rpm :) brilliant for daily driving. Make sure there’s no knocking, blue smoke from exhaust etc.

The 6 speed sti gearboxes are bulletproof. Watch out for rust. I imported mine from the uk and I’m very lucky in that there isn’t a spot of rust on it. Have a look at the rear arches, ‘U’ subframe, lower engine bay etc.

The only expenses I’ve put into it are normal running costs, timing belt, services. Nothing has ever ‘broken’ on it. Honestly I’ve loved every second of owning it and I’ll be daily driving it for another year again. Let me know if you have more questions!

They are more expensive to run than most cars, but then again they are different to most cars.

Fuel consumption, insurance (a remap may make this worse), tyres, brakes and a clutch (particularly) are all pretty heavy duty price wise.

Thanks for your reply Ciano. About how much a month do you spend on fuel and also how much for servicing and parts if you dont mind me asking?

I spend about 70 a week on fuel. I’ve never had to buy parts yet but I wouldn’t think they’d be too bad. A 5L of Fuchs racing oil is about €70 and genuine filters are cheap enough. They’re a really easy car to service, except for the spark plugs! Although they’re grand when you get the hang of them.

Cost a bloody fortune to run, use to work with a chap that had one, he had to move it on eventually, just too expensive he's currently driving a 5 series, impreza was a beast though, I'd say go for it, you only live once
