My mother In law has her old car sitting outside the house with no tax or nct or insurance and never declared the car off the road its not been taxed in 2+ years nct was out in 2019 , she wants to give the car to her daughter who's waiting to sit her theory test, is there anyway I can get it back on the road now , with tax and nct ? , is there a way for her mother to gt the back tax voided as she has some medical issues, I have fully comp driving of other cars but has to be taxed and nct,if she transfers the car into the daughters name, can the daughter use her mother's or my insurance disk to tax the car as we will be driving it until she can, can anyone help thanks

Don't think so - you'll be back-paying the tax since it last ran out as you haven't declared it off the road. It might sound harsh but they're the rules.

Not if its a new owner who will not be liable for back tax.

If she changes it into her daughters name outstanding tax is wiped out and her daughter is liable for tax on it from the start of the month she changed ownership. If she can tax it online after it transfers into her name she can put anything into the box for insurance details.

You could change the ownership of the vehicle to the person planning to drive it and the tax will start fresh when the log book comes back. Some but not all make up a random number to enter as the insurance details on the tax form

If she transfers the ownership to her Daughter then she (Daughter) is only liable for tax from that date.

    Yes, easy done -

    1. transfer ownership of car into daughters name - old tax liability goes away
    2. to tax the car while it doesn't have a policy directly on it, just use a random sequence of numbers and expiry date less than 1 year in the future.
    3. NCT it whenever you fancy, just watch out for the tax/insurance responsibilities if being driven to and from the test centre.

Have to say I do this purely out being too lazy to get the policy number, it will accept any random number.

It's a stupid system anyway as I can tax my car today with a policy that expires tomorrow. They need to go straight to the insurance companies database to verify insurance instead of adding it to a form that's a legacy from before the Internet.

OP the only issue is that you will need to transport the car to the NCT centre because no one will be insured to drive it there without an NCT. It'll need to be serviced also preferably before the NCT, but if you make sure that it's full of oil and fluids you could risk testing it, and most likely 4 new tyres, it will need to be transported to and from the garage if you don't have an NCT.

I always pick the most obscure insurance company on the list and put in CI000000000001 CI for car insurance...:pac: I know I've little to be doing:rolleyes:

As you cant drive to an NCT centre not without a valid NCT cert, I'd recommend that you arrange a tow truck for it.
Your MIL's car possibly isn't roadworthy after sitting there for two years, so you'd be wise to have a tow truck bring it to the test.

Not sure how the engine will respond after sitting unused for 2 years.
