Soil sampling

    Have soil samples to take and was wondering what sort of weight of soil from each field do I send off. And will they do being sent away in a plastic bag

    When I was sending off last autumn was told send off a nice bit, that if theres not enough soil they might not have enough to test when it's dried out, I suppose the containers I was given was about 6 inch square box, I filled each one full for different blocks, could of been 20 cores in each

    Was probably less than 6 inches sq thinking about it,

    Have u a soil sampler , one full will fill the box u get off teagasc, the box is about 2 inch square and 4 inch tall

    I don’t. I was going to send it away in a small plastic tub

    You would be as well to get a proper soil sampler somewhere ... Teagasc or a private ag adviser .... You need about 20 cores for a proper sample, they need to be aprox 4 inches log aprox.... ground needs to be reasonably dry otherwise you will not get a proper 4 inch core.... Teagasc do the whole job for something like €25/€30 a sample... might be a simpler option.
