The female officer screaming in the child’s face at the end while the mother stands there is beyond belief.

I was expecting that the thread title was blowing whatever happened out of proportion, unfortunately it doesn't.

    I don't think that's the child's mother, I think it's a member of staff of the school.

I'm sure we will have plenty of people on explaining how the kid deserved it.

What a ****show. How can you treat a child like that.

My lack of shock is now the most shocking thing when it comes to stories coming out of the US.

Worse again is the fact they're still acting members of the police, these two are a danger to the public with their attitude, anyone that would handcuff, scream at and threaten a 5 year old with violence needs to be mentally evaluated.

There's usually a few on here for whom no opinion is too obnoxious and nothing is ever indefensible, but I have a feeling this thread might be a first.

    It's true though..

What, that some posters are always on the lookout for a racist angle, whatever the topic? Absolutely true.

What is wrong with the the contemporary US? These stories keep on coming and coming. It seems to be an extremely violent society.

That is reminiscent of the kind of stories you would have heard from the bad old days here of violence and intimidation towards children by the nuns & christian brothers at their height in the 50s & 60s

What’s going on there would and should be classified as child abuse and should result in intervention by social services.

It’s even worse as those are people who that kid is supposed to see as care givers that they can trust and come to for help.

There’s huge psychological trauma going on there. How could anyone behave like that towards a 5 year old ?!? It’s incomprehensible.

When you add that to the extreme and totally disproportionate violence being meted out by police and law enforcement, it just starts to look more and more like a society that’s regressing to the 19th century. I will never forget watching coverage of cops driving their cars at protesters, a woman having a rubber bullet fired at her window for looking out, amongst many other examples of shockingly violent behaviour.

There’s an element of trying to force compliance by brutalising people and it just keeps cropping up again ans again.

Sometimes a mirror needs to be held up, but there’s nothing much point of a large % think the ugly image they see is somehow acceptable.

All this garbage they feed themselves about “the beacon of shining light inspiring freedom around the world” -
They might want to shine it at home a bit more. It seems a lot of the time to be little more than hollow nationalism.

Folks you'll note that the only reason you know what happened is because they have bodycams.

What do we have? The word of An Garda Síochana, tribunals, he said she said bull****, some spectators shaky cam shot from a hundred foot back.

    Bodycams=Accountability

Unfortunately, it’s much more than that. Given the kind of extreme violence witnessed over the last few months and the accounts of these kinds of stories that have been heard for years there’s a big underlying problem.

American policing seems to be about brutalising and threatening to achieve compliance. It’s nothing like community policing models used here or in many similar places.

This isn’t the first time I’ve seen stories of law enforcement and very threatening behaviour being used against children in that kind of context in parts of the US.

There’s also a huge gap professionalism between those who are granted enormous power over there. Some police departments are highly professional, others are glorified mall cops or sherif departments with all the professionalism of Boss Hog.

These stories are nothing new. We’ve been seeing examples of really extreme violence for years & long before body cams.

Even take the incarceration rate. How the hell is it so high? It’s not just a little higher than comparable countries it’s absolutely off the scale - 600-700% higher than many European countries, including here.

They really need to dial back the Robocop stuff and rebuild trust or it will feed into a breakdown of society.

Nothing else to say really. America being America.

America being America I'm only surprised they didn't shoot the kid.

The war on drugs caused lots of massive sentences to be handed out. I watched a programme and a fella was still in jail after 20 years for getting caught with an ounce or 2 of speed. Even his judge said it was a ridiculous sentence but he had to give it. In Ireland you'd probably get off . I've no problem though with locking violent criminals up for life , we could do with a bit of that here imo.

The media is all over this, the video was on the BBC. Sky News are covering it along with all the major US news outlets and Fox News.
