Apologies if this is the wrong forum to ask mods might move it if it is.
My old work phone gave up the ghost and a colleague in the UK has a spare one in a drawer he is going to send me, but we are concerned it's going to attract tax or duty. Not sure if he should mark the CN22A form as a gift or repair with a low value he will send it via Royal Mail.

Not sure if there would be import duty and vat on a secondhand phone.
But either way it's not your bill. It's a work phone. That bill would be you employers problem

There should be duty and VAT applied to it otherwise everyone would be buying phones from UK sellers and getting them sent over with no charges applied.
Not sure how you can avoid it either.
Only way might be someone from UK coming over and bringing it with them?

Probably get more responses in "consumer issues" thread.

To the best of my knowledge phones, either from the UK or - more likely - of Chinese origin (even though imported into the UK), would be zero duty.

If the phone is for company use, and the company is registered for VAT and EORI, then you can defer the VAT to your company's periodic VAT return. Also the UK company would need to be registered for EORI.

    Hope this helps?

    Cheers,
