4k projector and Sonos Sub

    Hi guys.

Looking to get a quote for a suitable 4k projector.

I can't go down the AV receiver route yet so planning to use the newer 4k Chromecast with it. Ideally, projector will have a powered USB connection to run to Chromecast without a further power cable.

Also, I have a Sonos Beam setup with 2 X play 1s (all supplied by you). So is there a piece of tech that will successfully split the Chromecast signal so I can send video to projector and audio to the beam.

Coupled with the 4k projector can you quote for a Sonos Sub please?

    Thanks

    Hey Quazzy.

Thanks for coming back to us :)

I'll start with splitting the Chormecast Signal.
The Chromecast is only an HDMI so you would need to hook it directly into the projector unfortunately and then connect from the Projector to the Beam.
I would not recommend trying to find a splitter as this will almost certainly give lip sync issues.
I have a beam at home myself and had my SKY Q into a splitter (QED) then to the TV and then ARC to the beam and the audio was all over the place which made most stations unwatchable.
Removed the splitter and went Sky Q straight to TV and then ARC to the beam and no issues.
(I had just moved house and my home cinema was still in boxes).

Our starting point for a 4K projector is the Optoma UHD30 coming in at 1149 Euro (Has a powered USB) - (Has optical out for connecting to the Beam).
    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-204644-optoma-uhd30-white-4k-uhd-hdr-dlp-projector.aspx

Next up is the Benq TK800M priced at 1199 Euro (Also has a powered USB) - (Only has 3.5mm jack output for audio).
    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-204177-benq-tk800m-white-blue-4k-uhd-hdr-dlp-projector.aspx

For a Sonos Sub (Gen3) they retail at 769 Euro but I could squeeze it down to 744 Euro

    Let me know your thoughts.

Just a question about the optical out from the optoma projector. Can you confirm the projector will pass through the full 5.1 track so the beam can give proper surround sound. Don't want to be stuck with PCM stereo if I can avoid it with the setup.

    Hi Quazzy.

I have checked and unfortunately it will only be 2 channel PCM stereo so that's that out.

I'll see if any of the other higher priced ones might do more than PCM.

I've read on some SONOS forums that some people have had success by using HDMI Matrix Switches (or similar) in order to either duplicate the output from chromecast or providing a separate optical output feed for use on SONOS Beam. I know its not the ideal scenario but I want to see what can be done to deliver 5.1 with Sonos and using a 4k projector.

Hope you can find a solution.

    Hey Quazzy.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

You could use the CYP QU 2 priced at £229. This will do up to HDMI 2.0
    https://www.richersounds.com/cyp-qu-2-4k22.html

Also as a special order we can get our hands on the Pulse Eight Neo priced at £149.
    https://www.richersounds.com/pulse-eight-neo-1x2-4k-hdmi-splitter.html

I've never used either is these before myself but I would say the CYP one would be decent quality going on the other products.

    Thanks for the reply Kenny.

I'll review the options (and budget) and come back to you soon.

Question - is there any delays / lead time with stock on the Sonos Sub, or Optoma Projector?

    Hey Quazzy.

Some bad news on the UHD30.
It has been sold online over the last few days. (I had been off the last two days myself).

It was the last one as it has been replaced by the UHD35 priced at 1199 Euro (Hopefully these will arrive towards the end of next week to our main warehouse).
    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-205246-optoma-uhd35-4k-uhd-hdr-dlp-projector.aspx

Sonos Sub in Black there is plenty of stock White is getting low with only a hand full left. (More will of course arrive over the next few weeks).

    Ok Kenny.
Can you stick my name on the optoma and a black Sonos sub please?

I won't take the HDMI splitter (I found another solution that I'll be testing)

I may be looking for a screen too so I'll measure up and see what might suit and come back to you for overall quote and perhaps renegotiate for a small discount for all 3 items for a loyal customer ;)
