Laptop recommendation 800-900 euro

Looking to replace a sony vaio laptop. Something with 8gb ram / 1 tb storage / i5 ot i7 with a dvd/cd drive. Mains uses : web / processing / photo editing with photoshop / burning cd's. Budget: 800-900 euro.

Looking to replace a sony vaio laptop.

Something with 8gb ram / 1 tb storage / i5 ot i7 with a dvd/cd drive.

Mains uses : web / processing / photo editing with photoshop / burning cd's.

Budget: 800-900 euro.

couple of points

-> most laptops don't come with a dvd drive anymore as most people don't use them. easily rectified by buying a usb one for 15 to 20 euro. you're really limiting your choice by 95% or so looking for an internal dvd drive

-> much faster ssd drives have replaced old-style slow spinning hdd drives but the storage size (outside more expensive options outside your budget) are smaller than 1tb -> 512gb or 256gb

this is a nice powerful laptop with a colour-accurate screen ideal for photo editing for £654 or so (~ €766)

4600h 6-core amd cpu is more powerful than the equivalent intel i7's

So if you wanted 16 gb ram , you'd have to replace the current ram, if that is possible

you can't actually on this model as it's soldered on to the motherboard

outside gaming or base level budget laptops this is increasingly standard as it saves space and weight allowing for slimmer, lighter and more appealing designs.

despite what some might say 8gb ram (as has been the case for the last number of years) is fine for most common tasks, even photo editing and will be for the foreseeable future.

I use a laptop for a lot of different tasks and monitor ram usage through task manager and am fine with 8gb ram.

particularly if you do a couple of simple things like limiting what's in your windows startup and not having everything running at the same time.

things like video editing, high volume data analytics etc would need 16gb.

some apps will just grab all the ram available on a system but will run fine with 8gb.

Yeah I hear what you're saying, looking at a laptop for photoshop and lightroom mainly don't see myself doing video, was just thinking that if I could future proof it a bit by getting the 16 gb ram in there now it would be easier.

I see apple have the m1 doing well off 8 gb of ram although I know it's a different architecture

the matebook 14 (non d) has a more powerful cpu (4600h vs 3500u). it has more cores and runs at a higher power level.

it also has a higher resolution and more colour-accurate screen
