    I got this quote;

    4 cameras at the. House
    2 cameras at the farmyard
    Can monitor from my. Phone
    4 tb hard drive
8 channel 5MP DVR with AcuSense Technology

    2,900e Inc VAT

I'm not all that savy with tech but not stupid either. I want a good job but don't want to be fleeced either. How does that quote sound?

It's a hard one to answer, because anyone that says you are being robbed can't possibly compare without knowing what exactly you're getting.. camera quality etc..

The price can be high for the better quality hardware, and I mean a multiple of what cheaper hardware costs.

Most half decent systems can be remotely viewed.

Without knowing specifics, I would have expected something like that supplied and fitted to cost about 2 and a half

Hard to know what you are getting from the description. Acusense would suggest Hikvision hardware which is certainly a good thing.

I assume at that price the system is being installed by a reputable registered security installer.

You could definitely get a cheaper system/install, but without knowing all of the hardware models and additional network equipment being installed as well as the actual work involved which can vary by site, nobody here will be able to advise whether your quote is good value or not.

Thanks for that. Yes it's a reputable company and it's Hikvision hardware. The fee includes installation and the site would not be very awkward.

Would you consider using a nest or ring setup. Cheap and cheerful and works very well from my experience. I have 2x rings at home and 2x in the office. Cameras are 150 - 200 a piece and are easy to setup either with wick or (better) Ethernet. The app is far better than on my Swann cctv system, and quality is better too.

Well all I can say is your quote is not a million miles off of what SuperTortise paid, different models of hardware could change the price by a few hundred easily, plus there could be inflation due to time, brexit, insurance etc.

I'm sure someone will be along to tell you you are being robbed as they bought and installed a cheap system themselves but that's an apples and oranges situation. (Fairly fond of the cheaper DIY options myself, but that's not for everyone either)

My setup was hikvision cameras hikvision DVR, now there's switches and routers to bring signal from shed 70m away, installed and certified by registered company which im told is important if your footage is ever to be used in court etc.
Someone more knowledgeable might be able to clarify that.

Certainly needs by law go be installed by a registered contractor. Regarding court use, don't believe so. It is important correct procedures are involved in obtaining it from you in order to use it by police etc

putting in cameras at present in the office, the lad first fixed the cameras when it he was first fixing the fire alarm board and intruder

one camera is €600 plus the vat for an open space upstairs. he was saying all Hikvision are 4 mb standard where as 12/18 months ago they were 2mb.

So without camera spec its hard to know. I am putting in 16 port board and all is going into a separate comms cabinet but including 10 cameras the price is sub 3k incl vat (excluding first fix for cables which took about a day at the time ) . installer is registered with that PSA
