What caught my eye in the story was 'over 6000 companies have lost their sites and data with no much chance to recover anything' might this be true or is it journalistic license ?

I made a habit of distrusting "news" that offer zero references. You must ask yourself: Who said this? Where?

Spouting numbers and statistics without backing them up with references has zero journalistic value.
