i moaned about the mondeo in anothe thread a few minutes ago.

anyway, the wheel nut key has broken. i tried the 12point socket hammer trick to no avail. i think the only option is getting a car mechanic to weld a nut onto the lock and turn it.

anyone know how much i should expect to pay for four corners.

in trying to use the wheel nut, ive damaged the coils on the wheel lock nuts so getting a replacement from ford is unlikely to solve the problem.

Red cow tyres on the Naas road does them for us for around 50 euros incl vat.

I used one of these to remove four locknuts from a focus after I lost key. My advice bin them locknuts they all corrode over time and give trouble.

    thanks hellyeah.

good point on getting rid of those locknuts altogher unless wheels/car is valuable.

car wheel nut locks has this spinning thing on top and once i remove that, the size is too small for that halfords device. but i appreciate you looking that up for me. thanks again.

A lump hammer and chisel always works for me.
Wort a try ...may not be too tight.

Go to the main dealer and get them swapped out for regular nuts. Vw charged me 40 euro.
Mechanic said to me no one wants them, if someone really wants your alloys they'll take them regardless.

Beat a socket on to it and get new ones. Heat it, beat it, turn it

Ring local tyre place. Surely this is bread and butter stuff for them and they have tricks of the trade to remove them.

^^ This. Tyre fitters are dealing with this on a daily basis.

Main dealer would have a set of all genuine lock nut keys for this very reason. If the nut isn't damaged that'd be the best place to go.

The brands that I work with don't have any genuine lock nut keys available on site. A replacement key can be ordered using the chassis number but if the lock nuts/key have previously been changed........................

Ford used to only have like 8 different lock keys that were colour coded, dealers used to carry a full set.

    Not much use now maybe.

Same with VW/Audi back about 25 years ago - they had about 20. The AA vans all had a set too so they could assist a stranded motorist with a puncture who had lost/misplaced the key.

The ones AA use are for forcible removal & mostly damage the nut beyond reuse.
They're only as good as the last fool that tightened them with an air gun.
