Ceiling Extractor for island hob

Not convinced by down draft systems so back looking at ceiling options. There's a roof light close to the island so thinking of one of those ones flush into the ceiling but they seem v expensive. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I think you're right not to be convinced by down draft extractors, have seen a couple in operation and the smoke rises too fast for it to capture it all. I think theyre a gimmick just designed to facilitate people putting hobs on island units, if youre doing smokey cooking then extracting from up above is the only way imo.

However it was only £330 back then and now theyve jacked the price to £499 :eek: Theres a few other models on that site but they all seem around £500. When I was looking loads of them were nearly a thousand euro and I even came across a 'designer' model for over three grand.

Just on fitting them flush into the ceiling- check with your builder because the ducting to the outdoor wall has to run between your ceiling joists. If the joists run width ways across the room then it may not be possible to have it flush with the ceiling, you'd have to create a 'box' on the ceiling to hold the unit and house the ducting, this is what I did.

Otherwise try to get one with a remote control. When mine arrived I didnt even know it came with one, I saw it in the box and was thinking who would ever need a remote control for an extractor fan. But the remote is handy for amount of times Ive sat down with the dinner only to realise the extractor is still running. They would also be handy for smaller people or children who cant reach the buttons up at ceiling level.
