Drawings for Planning Permission

    Hi there,

I am currently in the process of designing my home for Planning.

Now, I do not want to do this on the cheap, however anywhere I can save my pennies I will.

I myself am a draftsman and a current user of Revit and AutoCad, and my knowledge of Irish construction will allow me to sufficiently design a house and do up all necessary drawings for the planning process.

However I just want to clarify a few things:

    1. Can I go for planning myself, do my drawings and submit in my own name if I am not a registered Engineer or Architect etc.

    2. If I were just to do my design, and all the drawings, and pass them to an Architect to complete a planning application would the work I completed for them be reflected in their professional fees?

If anyone has any information regarding going for planning themselves, or doing the drawings themselves, I would appreciate any help.

It would just kill me to pass over money for someone to do a design of my home and the drawings, all of which I can do myself and take pleasure in doing!

    Many thanks in advance!

(I am in the Longford area also if anyone has experience in this location)

You can of course do the plans but if you are confident enough why give them to an architect?

Are you familiar with the planning process and what's entailed in preparing and submitting a valid application?

I doubt if any architect would accept drawing for a PPA.

Look up the planning documentation requirements on the Longford LA website.
The requirements are not that difficult, you just need to get them spot on, in respect of the paperwork and sequencing events such as advert in an acceptable paper, location and timing of erection of site notice etc..
Do you need a preplanning meeting?

To be honest the only reason would be that I wouldn't be overly familiar with submitting a valid application, and with work piling up at the moment, if I could offload it I would.

Also, I would be under the impression that an application from an Architect, may be viewed to a higher standard. But maybe I'm wrong?

Thanks for that, I will have a look at exactly what is required.

I will probably go for a preplanning meeting just to make sure I am on the right tracks.
