I have a 2017 Toyota Prius ,new Model, which because of Covid restrictions ,I am not driving very often.Last week ,when I turned it on ,all the electrics were dead. The AA came out and put charger on the auxy 12v battery ,turned it on and worked straight away. Can anyone recommend a charger for this car/battery as in future I would like to have one in emergency situations or merely after periods of non use.I got the battery checked and it is perfect ,so only want good charger for piece of mind. Thanks in advance

I have one of these, a CTek, it gets used for various batteries I have. Can be left on permanently for trickle charging and was recommended : https://www.amazon.co.uk/CTEK-MXS-5-0-Reconditions-Motorcycle/dp/B00FC42HAA/ref=sr_1_9?crid=22CCPXPGZJNLU&dchild=1&keywords=12v+battery+charger&qid=1616601259&quartzVehicle=29-10519&replacementKeywords=12v+battery&sprefix=12v+batter%2Caps%2C158&sr=8-9

Do you know why it was out of battery? Was any light left on? Some Toyotas from that era had a software fault that would deplete the battery even if the engine was off. Check to see if there is a recall notice on your car to fix it.

It's the hybrid battery that actually starts the Prius but the 12v is used for ecu, dash, lights, accessories etc. Car won't start without both functioning as you won't get display to initiate starting the car. A jump starter power pack might be the best option, you can have that always charged rather than having to keep the 12v battery charged at all times.

I also have a CTEK MXS 5.0 and it seems to work well on my Prius.

Something to consider, assuming yours has keyless entry - frequently moving the keys in and out of range of the car may contribute to 12V battery drain, and potentially inhibit the keyless entry system from going into its low-power state. So for example, if the car is parked in your driveway and you're often passing it when walking to/from your home, maybe consider leaving the keys at home (well away from the car).

Thanks for all replies so far, no recall on car that I missed. Had batteries checked, all perfect. Seems to be down to lack of use, so starting for an hour each day works. I would still like the insurance of jump starter pack, so any further recommendations welcome

I have a thing like this. Not this exact one but similar.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Portable-20000mAh-Flashlight-Automotive-Motorcycle/dp/B08SJR1WXS/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=car+starter+power+pack&qid=1616847551&sprefix=car+starter+&sr=8-6

I can leave it in the car and if I get stuck I can jump-start the Prius. It only needs a small amount of power to allow the relays to turn so it works well.

Just starting the car and letting it idle isn't good for it. Either go for a 30 min spin every week, buy a battery charger/trickle charger or disconnect the 12V battery till you want to drive it.

Thanks, just ordered one of these from Amazon, hopefully no important fees incurred

Amazon charge you the import fees at point of sale, the price will have changed when you put in your Irish address.

Might be taxes due then and a fee for processing. I always go fulfilled by Amazon as I know taxes are covered

See if you can cancel and get something similar fulfilled by Amazon.
