Hi guys some advice please. I'm looking at two cars both 2010 both Mondeo hatchbacks both zetec spec. Both have extensive service history. Even similar mileage the only difference between them is one is 1.8tdci the other 2.0tdci. Which one would ye recommend?? 🀔

The 2.0 TDCi is the far better engine. The 1.8 is ancient and in the Mondeo it is underpowered.
The 2.0l on the other hand is a much newer more modern much better engine.

This is no doubt true except for the fact the 1.8tdci has no dpf which has to be a plus. The wet belt was marked as done on the service book too. The 2.0tdci had belt done and clutch/flywheel.

    The 2.0 is far better

The Dad had an S-Max with the 1.8TDci only mistake he made buying that car. It had a habbit of cutting out in low gears or when starting off in 1st gear. The 2.0litre in it would have made it so much nicer to drive.

Both have their pros and cons.

1.8 TDCi is derived from a very old Ford engine dating back to the Sierra. A 2010 could will have the "wet" timing belt which are known to snap prematurely. Changing the wet belt on the Mondeo is the bones of 1k so take that into account.

2.0 TDCi is a Peugeot/Citroen engine and more refined and quieter than the 1.8 TDCi. It's also more powerful. They do suffer from injector problems though but the 2.0 TDCi Mondeo is a nicer car to drive over the 1.8 TDCi. If they are both like for like I'd go with the 2.0 litre.

Had a 2.0l Tdci mondeo for 4 years before my current car. 2011 titanium. Seriously nice car to drive. Have a focus at home too with the 1.8 tdci. Go with the 2 litre. There’s no comparison between them IMO.

Would a 2009 1.8tdci have the wet belt?

Some do, some don't. Wet belts appeared from around 2007 onwards but Ford apparently were making wet belt versions along side the older ones for sometime until stock depleted.
