Stencilling a new concrete patio area

Recently had a extension built and need to sort out a patio area outside the back doors. There's about a 1ft drop to the ground so I want to have that filled with concrete. I was thinking if putting outside tiles in on top of the concrete but with money being tight at the moment I'm considering painting the concrete and using stencilling. This seems to be becoming an increasingly popular option. The way I see it is I've nothing to lose and if it looks crap or wears too quickly I can always tile the area in future, vwhen I have more funds.

Has anyone any experience with this?

This would be the kind of thing I'm going to attempthttps://dizzyduckdesigns.com/blogs/the-dizzy-ducks/2019-best-patio-transformations

As you say you have nothing to lose, I have stencilled many things, I was very fond of the craze back when it was last popular in the 80s. I stencilled a pattern on the gap between countertop and presses at the time as I couldn't afford tiles, it matched the floor covering and is there to this day and still looking well. I stencilled the whole attic floor to look like tiles with a border, it wore well too.

That said outside is a different story, I have painted my patio slabs as they are old and very tatty, they look great but it needs redoing every year even with sealing it after painting. You'll get one great year anyway when it's newly done :)

Have a look at the Carlow paint hub Instagram page, they have showed how to do this in the past and it seemed to work very well.
