A6 C7 Ultra - Start/Stop error and Limp Mode

142 A6 C7 Ultra 190 with 130k miles. From startup this morning start/stop error and glow plug/coil flashing. Limp mode.

FBD breakdown assist towed her away and will bring to Audi garage first thing tomorrow. The lad who took her away on the truck said it looks like an injector issue but I don't know if that's the case as the car is running smoothly on ticking over?

Could it be a simpler fix?

Same happened to my 2011 2l tdi.
It had the emissions software update and this made sh1t of the EGR valve.

Has yours had emissions software update by any chance?

EGR valve was replaced by Audi FOC

My last one, the 177 version had the emissions fix but the Ultra 190 doesn't need it as far as I know.

Hard to tell until it's scanned. Out of curiosity why did you call the breakdown service could you have waited until tomorrow and brought it to the garage yourself?

It's free with FBD insurance that I have. I really didn't want to chance driving it in limp mode as it was struggling to get to 30mph...

Ahh ok, I didn't realise it was undriveable. Hopefully you'll know more tomorrow when it's scanned.

Well, it probably was drivable enough to go a few miles if the truth be told. I half hoped the FBD Mechanic might scan it and tell me its a low voltage on the battery type thing so called them cos its free....Still kinda hoping that's it to be honest. Surely if its an injector issue, it'd run lumpy of smokey or something but it's fine ticking over.

It could be anything, someone said earlier it was a failed egr valve (very likely) in my case I had similar symptoms and it turned out to be a defective throttle pedal.

    Yeah, late 2014. I traded a 177 manual for a 190 S-Tronic.

I'm afraid it sounds like EGR, I have a 161 but always use Dipetane on every fill to keep it clean. Probably a waste of time and money...

Is getting it changed a big job? I need the blasted thing to travel 40 miles each way to work.....hoping they can fix it tomorrow......how much to replace I wonder? In the process of looking for a Volvo S90 2018 or so but that might go on the back burner now....

Would there mot be some rough or uneven sounding from the engine at idle if it's the EGR valve? I had none of that.

I don't know but TFB will know the answer if you have a full Audi service history their maybe some hope of goodwill but unlikely at that age. Where you located?

Located in Waterford but have always used Audi Wexford.....haven't used the Waterford unit before but hoping that won't matter as it (and the previous one) were always serviced by Audi.

Yeah, they are. Had a few different things over the years and they were top notch in fairness. They always saw me right to be fair to them.

    It'll cost around €700

Didn't turn out as bad as I feared.

The cause if the issue was the boost pressure sensor (G31) and they had one in stock. Cost me 225 euro for part and labour and I'm happy with that considering some of the other options.

In fairness, they had it up on the ramp and fixed in 30 mins so great service considering I haven't used that particular Audi dealer before.

Nice one. I had boost pressure problems with an 07 Octavia I got rid of it as it was pointing to sticky vanes in the turbo and I'd had enough of the car at that stage.
