Planning for Temp Mobile home while building

    Hi all,

We have a site bought and full planning Permission granted. Our own house is up for sale and we expect(hope!) it will sell in the next few months.

We had something loosely agreed re somewhere to live for the year or 18 months that it took us to build, but that may have fallen through now.

Anyway we were thinking we may just buy a mobile home and rough it for the time it takes to do the build. Could pick something up for around the 5k mark and sell on again in a couple of years time. Even if we got 3k for it the hit would be better than maybe 15 to 20k in rent.

My main query is would we need to apply for separate temporary planning permission to site the mobile. Had anyone done this or just pulled the mobile in and ploughed on. The site is on the edge of a village and fairly exposed so I would imagine there could be complaints to council.

Any advice or past experiences would be great.

    Thanks.

You need planning. It won’t be granted.

You may “get away with the it” as people may not complain as they may see that you are building a house rather than setting up a halting site.

Or you may draw the council on you and end up in court.

Where is the site, our local planning will grant a 3 year temporary planning for a mobile home in tandem with permission for a house. Its granted on the condition that the temporary unit is piped into the permanent treatment plant /percolation area and the site entrance is established correctly.

you have permission for an entrance and an effluent treatment system..
well done, thats the difficult engineer issues out of the way

there should be very little problem in being granted temporary permission for a mobile home on site while the house is being built. Thats a very standard type of application these days.

on the application offer something like 30-36 months as being a realistic time period required and state that you ill accept a planning condition on this.

There's a better chance of it being granted than refused. As stated above a temporary permission would most likely be granted. Done a few of those jobs over the years and never had a problem.

Thanks for all the replies above. Would it be a full application again for the temporary permission or a post planning submission on the full grant?

I suppose a call to the planning office would give me the answer. Just don't want to put my head above the parapat so to speak.

Apply for the temp use at the same time as the main dwelling planning.

Main planning is granted already. Didnt have the foresight to include temp dwelling in application unfortunately.

Lodge a planning app now for temp use while under construction.
