Is cat litter toxic to dogs?

So we've been adopted by a cat, negotiations with the dog are currently ongoing but the ceasefire seems to be holding.

Now we've a new issue - I've discovered that the dog is eating out of the cat's litter. I think she's eating the cat's poos, but I'm not actually sure, but she's definitely eating some of the crystals along with them. Silica crystals, blue and white things.

What to do? (Apart from put the litter somewhere she won't find it)
But is it toxic to her? Do I need to call the vet? It's Sunday, obviously. Well it would be.

Does this happen a lot when people have dogs and cats together? Are there other kinds of litter that are les toxic if she does get into the litter?

    Any advice would be great.

Have you checked what the bag of litter says?

I know some litters are 'safer' if ingested, the maize or tofu variety for example, but I don't know which litters are unsafe!

Very normal for dogs to eat cat poo, especially more food motivated dogs.

Yes it doesn't say anything about eating it - I suppose because cats wouldn't do anything so stupid!

We use the wood pellet litter. The dogs sometimes get into the litter trays for a little snack but I assume the pellets will just go through them, they disintegrate fairly well when wet anyway.

Also they can go in the brown bin so I think they're a bit better for the environment.
