Level base for 12x10 wooden shed

    Hi,

Not sure if this is in the right forum but just looking for advice.

We are having a shed delivered and erected in about 3 weeks and I need to make a level base for the shed. The main issue is we do not have a side gate to the house and everything needs to be brought through the house.

The shed supplier said a gravel base would be perfect but I keep changing my mind about it as I do not want to have to bring over 3 tonnes of gravel through the house in a wheel barrow.

I will probably go with blocks. I do not really have any experience with DIY bar putting together IKEA furniture :D

We have dug up the grass and top soil of the whole back garden as we will be re planting new grass seed (garden is in poor condition, weeds and was flooded a few months back)

To get the land level for the blocks should I put down sand, soil or gravel?

Anyone have suggestions on what I can do to keep things affordable but looking nice and what way to go about it?

Also the shed will be storing among other things my home gym (power rack and heavy weights) so I do not know if blocks will have the support needed for that. Kind of lost here!

    Thanks.

Have the shed company assured you that all components will get through the house?

While blocks look attractive, they are, IMO, much harder to get level than crushed stone, which will also make for a dry, rodent free base under the shed.
Due to the heavy weights, you may need to consider more frequent supports under the shed.

Re the flooding, did a decent fresh drain/ soak hole before you re turf, plenty exams here.

What you need to do OP is find out exactly the dimensions of the base and where the supports are.

Our sheds are all on 2-3 blocks which are only under the main supports leaving a very good air flow and storage space under the shed.

I just take out the top soil down as far as subsoil then spot bed the bottom block on a dry sand and cement mix then run a level from that to get the next one at the right height. Then just top up with more blocks (all on the flat side) to get the height I want. Two blocks would be a minimum for me and allow a couple to put down for a step.

I can't emphasise that you need the right dimensions for the shed base. I've seen the wrong ones given out and most of the blocks in the wrong place.

Wake me up when it's all over.
