hiya guys car failed nct on front suspension imbalance
    nearside 27nm offside 169nm

back was about 50nm each no problem

    retest after two new shocks
    nearside 29nm offside 50nm

not something I've had happen before the low number on the nearside seems odd one out.

im planning to change out top mount bushes next but really only guessing

if any happens to have any insights or ideas to troubleshoot id love to hear them. thanks in advance

replaced two new shocks, as habit would never change single side anything

What brand shocks did you fit?

    sachs, good make.

Is it possible the shock is faulty? Try getting 2 replacements, Motor factors usually have no problem exchanging parts.

yeah considered that but the bounce test is perfect indicating shock ok and even the nct guy said he taught shock itself was fine. i have found one piece of info online that indicates it may be spring for low nm reading

Had that before, failed multiple times on new shocks, brought the car to a cvrt centre and they tested on the same equipment and it passed. Got a print out from the cvrt and the NCT passed the car.
The next NCT passed with no issues.

One thing to check is your tyre pressures, if one is really low it can cause a fail.

Interesting - if genuine Sachs & the correct part numbers then it is not the new parts.
(Very slight possibility that new parts were not 'bled'/'primed' before fitting - if so, a few hundred miles should sort it)
    Would love to inspect!!

But go for basics first - tyres/pressures

so just to update car passed nct today. have fitted two new springs and two new top mounts, made sure all bases covered. still 24% unbalance of 29nm nearside and 38 on offside. maybe the one side not primed might have been the issue? it a logical theory. i did fit myself and dont remember treating one different to other but possible. thanks for all replys guys.

Your shock maybe new, but no guarantee it's not faulty.
My Isuzu Trooper failed the CVRT on one front shock, which was dramatically out of sync with the other 3.
All four are Monroe and had been fitted new 9 months before.
Went home and pulled a genuine Isuzu shock out of a 2000 registered trooper I have for spares, and it passed with flying colours....

very interesting you could be right. do you by any chance have or know location of someone with parts for a mk1 trooper?

Don't know of any left around here.
The REPS and GLAS schemes ment farmers got rid of lots of old stuff...
The 2.8 engines are sought after now ( when they're all gone!) as they fit various fork lift trucks.
