    neighbours car.
Jump leads attached wrong way round.
The window wipers and some front lights came on when ignition was switched on ;)

Connected right way round: all lights on the dash come on but it wont start.

It did start I am told last week.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks as always

Jumped straight to the + & - leads of the Mazda? It's probably cooked.
Hopefully you weren't the one that done it.

With no jump leads connected what happens when ignition turned on? Is it turning over when leads connected?

When you cooked what do you mean, exactly?

The ECU should be protected against reverse polarity, to prevent causing permanent damage, but it really needs to be looked at by an auto-electrician.

Can that be established at the car, its untaxed, uninsured as has been off the road for a year.

Did you try a push start as the starter motor could be stuck after sitting idle for a year?

Basic check of fuses, easy. OBD scan, money mechanics can do too.

Issue would be possibly getting ublnder the car if that was necessary to check the starter, etc.

Check all fuses, some ecu's by design will blow thier fuse when reverse voltage occurs.

Jebus, I thought 50A would be the max on any car!

My guess its the starter motor fuse, could be wrong.
