Any mouse traps that actually work?

I got a pack of these at local HW store.
But they don't work, they are way too hard to trigger.
Has anybody been able to modify these so they work?
I'm just feeding mice right now, they nibble but the trap doesn't trip and just stays armed.

You have to snip a few mm off the end of the trigger bar and bend it up, very slightly. Then you get a small rubber band and secure the nut in the bait hole with that, it makes the mouse struggle to get the nut out and SNAP...

If the trap is accidentality trips a couple of times when you are putting it into place, it's about the right level of sensitivity.

Rubber band and are you using an actual nut as bait?
    I've always used peanut butter.

A bit of peanut butter or chocolate spread on top of the nut is great for attracting them in, but gives no resistance to set the trap off. You need that little extra, in my (successful and hard won) experience.

Get These. Or what ever ye see that looks identical. Won't go far wrong.

Nothing wrong with them they work fine, you just have to be patient careful when setting them up.
I usually set them near the top of the trigger rod and place them down gently.
You also need to pass them over a heat source to remove any sent. Otherwise the little blithers wont come near them.

Go for the easy to set ones.

    Reusable too.

But best option is the humane traps. When they enter the trap closes, but they have plenty of space to move about until you release them.
