Mazda 6 front creaking noise

I noticed a slight creaking noise around last summer in front of car. This noise was only noticable when driving slowly around towns. Over the winter the noise disappeared but now it's back and a bit more noticeable. I read online that it could be lower arm bushing or ball joint maybe. There is no uneven tyre wear. When you brake and take off can hear the creek too. Seems to be the dry weather back now has caused it to come back. I was going to take off the front wheels and take a look. I was just wondering how would I go about figuring out which part needs replacement.

Most likely the top suspension arm. Its a fairly common problem with the Mazda 6.

Yeah I had the car checked by mechanic and he said the arms need replacement. At first he said it was ball joints so i was thinking they are not that expensive but then he told me that you need to replace the whole arm and can't replace ball joints separately, is this correct ?
He got a price for the arms 170 euro reach which is before labour. I checked online and that's the cost of them, apart from ebay where I can get 2 for 150 euro but not sure about quality of them and i don't think I'd chance buying suspension parts of ebay.

    How old is the car?

The aul' fella swapped both arms on my 07 Mazda 3 last year. I got them from Mr. Auto (which was recommended by himself - retired mechanic) and were nowhere near 170 a piece - closer to 100 for the pair iirc. He said they were "grand" quality.

Edit: although having a quick nose at Mazda 6 parts, they look a fair bit more expensive

Yeah mine is 2011. I checked all the online car shops. Mr Auto is a bit cheaper at 155 euro each but still expensive. Ebay is the cheapest with 150 for a pair. I didn't actually notice the creaking noise today it seems to be gone so I don't think the bad joints are too bad because I don't have any problem with steering control or tyre wear but I guess it's a problem best fixed sooner rather than later.

Just be careful of ebay incase you get stung for import duty.
