What do you think about the new Astra? I don't see the 1.4 eco engine. Have they stopped using it?

I’d imagine they’ll be using PSA powertrains on the Astra now.

Expect 1.2 petrols and 1.5 diesels to be the popular ones. There is a 1.4 turbo but it’s not the GM engine, like the others it’s a 3 cylinder.

The Astra desperately needs an actual new model IMO.

Don't touch a petrol Astra - the 1.2 3 cylinder engines are failing on them.
Giving all sorts of issues at the minute.

Is this happening with older PSA stuff too with that engine or just in Astra’s?

I can only speak from working in Opel but that 1.2 3 cyl is an awful piece of junk..The camshafts are falling out of them.

Jesus, and these would be all cars less than 18 months old that can’t have been doing much driving

I think most of them engines would have been badly maintain or the wrong spec
of oil used, even with that Mazda engine not all of them give trouble,
I know of a few garage even a few main dealer that used the wrong spec of oil.

That engine has only been on the Astra since late 2019.
How badly can you maintain a new car?

If you put the wrong spec oil into most engines and it will, all the old engine would've
been ok maybe buy not the new one.

Given all the past woes of opel ..with very bad engines and gearboxes. its amazing anyone would touch one with a barge pole..
But they even have an ev out now and people are buying...regardless of quality it seems to be ok with us Irish once the price is right

In all fairness a few of the ones Ive seen have been serviced in "insert random tyre place here"

They are supposed to take 0w20 and 5w30 seems to be the issue.

Usually starts with an oil pressure light on and a dtc for intake or exhaust cam sensor

.If its gotten to that its generally too far.
