Would a campervan qualify as a primary residence?

I am on disability allowance. I'm investigating living in a campervan on a plot of land I will inherit on the family farm. Would a campervan qualify as a primary residence from the point of view of disability allowance and the means test?

I'd be quite surprised if it would particularly if its not a stationary dwelling, whilst a mobile home might pass muster, a camper van could I believe not be considered a primary residence, this notwithstanding all sorts of planning regulations which would be your primary obstacle. In essence you can not just put a camper van on a site and live in it wether you own the site or not.

I’d say you’re putting the cart before the horse on this one.
Have you checked to see if the value of your “inheritance” and Camper Van might exceed the means permitted for DA?

    Why not?

A fair question. Perhaps the mobile residents of your nearest halting site could advise you how they manage it!

The OP states they are actually on Disability Allowance so assuming they've already been approved, means tested etc the question then becomes a planning issue and can the location be determined as a verifyable address for the purposes of correspondence etc.

There's far too many Plaaning obstacles to list but a person can't just decide to put a camper van or mobile home in situ and live in it, even if they own the site. Notwithstanding Services, waste, water supply the question will also be asked if it is at all wise for someone with medical challenges to be living in such a situation.

So SW aside, the OP will have the County Council and perhaps neighbouring land owners to contend with.

OP are you actually going to live in the campervan or just use it as an address for claiming your benefits. Camper van living all year round wouldnt be advisable especially with a disability.
