    Just doing the bps application.

Coming up with a warning this year that you currently have less land than entitlements.
We have 16.97 claimed area and 17 entitlements.

Just wondering what I do here?

Unless you can increase you land area either by adjusting your maps or including a bit of land elsewhere like a bit of your lawn I just ignore it and move. I think as long as part of an entitlement is used they do not take a fractional part off you anyway 0.03 of s entitlement is about 7-12 euro depending on your entitlements value

I was worried I would only get 16 entitlements . But didn't realise it was just a fraction of the 17th I wouldn't get.

    That is my understanding anyway

There were some small adjustments made to land parcels this year. We got a letter about it. Could it be related to that I wonder.

Have you checked the map that was sent to you by the Dept. ?
Has come land when taken off for some reason?
Last year my area was reduced and I came to the conclusion that they reduced the area where a row of trees were casting a shadow onto a field.
I had a conversation by phone with a nice lady in the Dept. and after I explained the problem she agreed to me altering the acreage to the original figure.
( I am not being sarcastic, she really was a nice person).

I have 2.04 entitlements spare after this years application is submitted. Is there anything I should be doing with them or am I better just keep them for the year? Not selling them but is lease a viable option?

Leasing is always a viable option depending on there value. I sure if you put them on DD you will find a lad willing to lease them. It's just a matter of agreeing a price and doing the paperwork. 40-60% of face value depending on value

A friend of mine has 45 acres of naked land, he is thinking of buying entitlements, what way does this work? Can he only purchase 45 entitlements to put on this land or could he purchase a few extra?

Generally you only but what you need
45ac is 18.75Ha and 1 entitlement is for 1 Ha
When we bought it was 3x the entitlement value
I don’t know the conditions on unused entitlements

Better off leasing them out, I think it's a 2 year use it or lose it rule. It used to be possible to "rotate" the entitlements used each year but now it's same entitlements each year.

Once someone (i.e. a leesee) uses them it covers you.

Adding on to what HK said above. You also may need to adjust your land to number of entitlement to allow for any land under trees, sh ds or land that is over grown with scrub etc

How long does it take typically to transfer entitlements? I moved my fathers to me at the start of March and i've heard nothing since.

So if he bought entitlements worth 300 a entitlement what would he be exspecting to pay?

I don’t know the current trading value, Joseph Naughton & HMG would be worth a call
Say it’s 3 times then 3x300x18.5 (deducted a little for over grown hedges) is €16,650 to pay

Check on your application the actual size of each plot and amount being claimed for each plot , you might be able to adjust an odd plot by 0.01 or more to use up the excess. I got the same warning & the numbers being claimed on each plot seem to have fractional room for adjustment.

The whole CAP is going to change next year, in the last CAP reform some farmers got entitlements just by applying for them.
Conversely those that bought some good expensive ones had them hugely devalued, so thread carefully

Just a quick question on leasing entitlements....will keep the figures rounded for ease of calculations...
if you lease an unused entitlement from another farmer worth say 100 euro....how does the system work?

Do you the person leasing the entitlement get 100% value in your payments.....so say get 100 euro for that leased entitlement .....and pay the farmer you leased them off say 40% of value then....or 40 euro in other words.......

Or do you pay them 40% or 40 euro at the time of leasing the entitlements.
    Hope my question makes sense.
    Thanks for any replies.

You give him €40 for the entitlement now before 15may, he transfers the entitlement as soon as possible to you for the year, you then claim your subsidy so you get €80 in october and €20 in december
