Focus Mk 3.5 steering vibration

152 Focus, only 57k on the clock. Got my car serviced (main dealer...) in November, got two new tyres on the back as part of it.

Havent been driving it much at all due to WFH, but when going to the office and back (10 min journey) is the only time id be on the m50. About 100kmh I get a decent vibration through the steering wheel and the car in general.

Had to bring it back to them today for a wheel nut they stripped previously, asked could they have a look at why the vibration is happening. Asked if they could confirm the balancing was done when I got two new tires in November, they couldnt but said 'it would have been done'

If they only replaced the back tyres, do they have to re balance the front too? The outside of my front tires seem to have more wear than the rest of the wheel, which is why im asking.

If the fronts were already on the front then they shouldn't need to be balanced but if the fronts are the old rears then it would be good practise to balance them.

That being said, it could be anything not necessarily just balancing but it's a good place to start.

Yeah the fronts stayed on the front, rear tyres were replaced onto the rear. 2 days after the service/new tyres, I woke up to basically a flat tire. I stupidly drove to the garage (2 minutes away) thinking i could get away with it, could the wheel have been buckled as a result of that?

Anyway, they had the car for 4 hours to remove one wheel nut, said theyd need the car for longer to look into the vibration.

It can take time to work things into a diary. It's unusual for garages not do do everything while you wait.

I find it's often best to give the time they ask for, within reason, to get the best results.

We're you driving with a missing stud?

I have had a really bad experience with these from the very start.

I rang on Saturday and explained the entire situation, they said theyd book me in for 1 o clock today and have a look at it. Had to ring at 5 o clock to see if the car was ready to collect, when I collected they just said they changed the wheel nut, I asked about the vibration and they said theyd need the car for longer to diagnose.

Sorry missed this - no, it was just stripped so I couldnt take it off (slow puncture), had to bring it back to them as they were the ones at it last.

I had a bit of vibration in mine and replaced the lock nuts with standard nuts and it made a big difference

Just an update on this, got the wheels balanced all round but unfortunately vibration through the car still there between 80-100 kph.

Noticeable wear on the outside of the front tyres, I assume wheel alignment would sort this out? Could wheel alignment cause the vibration?
