2016/17 Superb estates

Previous car was 142 superb estate 140bhp manual and current is 182 superb estate DSG 150bhp. I honestly would never go back to manual gear box. You’ve had them before, great car. All those lease cars stop getting dealer services at 100,000km (end of warranty) and get a very log service interval of 30.000km instead of usual 15k. It depends how it was treated. I would buy mine (it’s fleet) but wouldn’t touch a couple of my colleagues ones. The first one is great spec and the rarer 190bhp and a DSG. I’d have that one first. My last one got to just shy of 190km and not a bother. Current has 145km and again not a bother on it.

16k is mental money for that car with 190k miles on it, I don't care how rare the spec is. That is too much money to be spending on a car that has been driven that much in such a short time. You won't see anywhere near that money back if you went to sell it on in a year's time.

I'd rather spend 16k on something like below which is mechanically the same car with less bhp and 120k miles less on it (if it can be verified):

The spec on the Passat is good, but it looks so much like a hearse.

2.0 is my preference, and I do fancy the DSG, not too concerned about the 150/190.

I would not be putting up a big mileage, as was working from home we'll before the pandemic. In fact the Octavia is only lately past 90k miles, though saw near no use for the years while I had the Superbs and a prior Octavia estate.

Is it realistic to get a non import in that approx specs with decent milage and in this price bracket?

If we agree that 190k miles since 2017 is not good, and not worth 16k, and equally from personal experience that 190k in this car need not be a technical catastrophe then what is is the car worth?

Then what is the chance of securing it at what it is worth? Or better put, will the dealer care?

And if I got it at that price, (with a year dealer warranty), what is the assessment of risk?
My expectations of milage are low enough, unlikely to exceed 10k km/yr post pandemic.

In my 8 yrs in a Superb, the only technical problem ever was a blown water pump after 1.5 yrs on the 2011 1.6 sportline. Back then was doing 30k km/ yr or so.

You could be lucky and not have a fault with that car but I wouldn’t risk buying anything with 300km’s - the likelihood of major repair is high. You don’t need a diesel either. I had three Superbs and one needed 4K gearbox warranty work after 90,000km - goodwill warranty helped

Are there any 1.4 TSI Superbs out there? Maybe an Octavia VRS? You might get one up North and import

If the seller is asking 16k then he has it in his head that it's worth near that so coming in a with a much lower offer probably won't fly with them imo. I think there is a bit of play here where it's no longer feasible to import a similar car with that mileage for much cheaper anymore. I just think it's too much money for the mileage on it imo.

First one there has 190k miles, that's serious going over 4 years. Personally I wouldn't touch it. Certainly not at that price.

Not so much choice around at the moment.. this one looks like the right spec( 2.0 / 190), but a good bit above the max 16k I was looking at. Any thoughts?

Well, during the past year, did not need so much, and the car I'm replacing is a 2001 Octavia saloon.
When it's again possible I expect to be taking it abroad for several weeks, loaded up with kitchen sink, wife, kids and dog.
I did this a few times before with my previous Superbs, and it was dead easy. One time with the Octavia was a very different story cos just didn't have the space.
Basically, has to be the estate. I looked at the Passat, and A4/A6 too, and keep coming back to the Superb

Looked at both, and the estate has about 30/35 litres(about 40 bottles of wine) extra space over the hatchback. Was surprised, I thought it would have been more. Presumably the estate would be much better for the dog.

I have 2016 SEL 2.0l superb estate. I bought it last summer, so early days in terms of judging reliability, but I absolutely love the car. I’m based in UK and bought it for £14.5 with 26000 miles on it. I’d fully recommend the car, particularly as an estate, but I’d worry about massively high milers

I assume the squarer space makes its more useful also.

Curious about estates also but would they be rated for more weight too?

I’m in the same position as yourself OP, looking for same year/ price Superb estate. They’re hard enough come by at the moment.

No, I think they are the same, an estate is just more versatile IMO

I think it makes a lot of sense as an estate. We took ours to France last summer and it was cavernous. The dog is very happy as well. I came from an SMAX which is also really good for space, but the superb is more practical. I think the estate actually looks better too.

Plenty on sale in UK. Could you take one over?
I think brexit has bollixed that idea up though. From the North?

Yeah, I’d consider it, but I still can’t get my head around the VAT/VRT process since Brexit and it seems a bit slow with Covid at the moment. I’d say it’s still possible to get a better car with a better spec over there, just might not be a big saving, but I d still go for that. I’m not in a panic to change, I’ll wait till summer and see if I can travel over there, or maybe ask a dealer here who sources cars if he could find one.

Same here re apprehension with the Import process..there are a number of cars listed by dealers in the north, but I am very wary, even with the possible savings.
I'm also not under huge pressure, but with the restrictions everything is more complicated.

Dealers have to fund duty on English imports so that’s 10%. Sterling has gotten really strong in the back of Brexit and Covid vaccines and is up to 1.17 from an average of around 1.10/ 1.11 last year so that’s another 6% or 7%

The other increase especially in something like a XC90 is that VRT has increased a lot too

Add all of that and it standing dealers 20% to 25% more for vat qualifying cars
