Surprised to be receiving these on BBC R5 via the BBC Sounds app. Thought they were geoblocked with a UK only audience allowed.

I was very briefly listening to Everton match on 5live via Radio Garden, then out of curiosity tried BBC Merseyside as it was a home game and that was geo-locked!

    Surprised to hear this too.

You didn't by any chance download the app when you were in northern ireland?

A family member tells me he registered for the BBC (tv) player in the UK and can still access it since moving back to ireland since Christmas. Apparently, once you register for BBC geoblocked services in Northern Ireland or the United Kingdom, they can be used abroad.

But when it comes to radio, maybe they are just less fussy about that kind of thing. I don't think I've ever experienced a geoblock on the Sounds player, although there had been talk of it.

    No, downloaded in RoI.

    No, downloaded in RoI.

I could get the match on R5 Live through the BBC Sounds APP at home last night as well

Did this work at weekends, or was Monday night first time you tried?

There's no Monday night live premier league radio coverage in ROI afaik.
    Could that be a factor.
BBC don't have to geo-block it as there's no competing provider.
Could be different for weekend games.

They've worked for ages. Haven't had a blocked game for some time.

Presumably BBC now has rights to broadcast games online in Ireland. There is no longer Saturday commentary on Today FM so the rights were presumably easy to secure.
