Lancer car alarm

    Just recently got a second-hand car...and after two weeks of use, the car alarm keeps going off randomly?

    It's an aftermarket car alarm, i just want to disconnect it permanently is there a fuse that i can remove? there's no reference to an alarm-fuse in the user manual and i looked online too but to no avail.

    Would anyone have any idea where it may be located?

    here's a pic of the fuse box..would the big blue one on the top row be it?

    It's anyone guess without even knowing what alarm this is for the Lancer.
    You're better of going to an auto electrician that can troubleshoot the wiring for you.

    If it's an independent siren you could just disconnect it, had same issue with a fiesta years ago. Plug into back of siren was like old scart lead held in with couple off screws.

    Don't touch anything there. That blue thing's a relay,not a fuse & hasn't anything to do with the alarm.

    Centre line of the pic on lh side, 2 heavy wires in a plug - one of them seems to have insulating tape wrapped around it. Is there a light wire joined in to it there?
    Hard to tell from the pic.

    Other than that- are the vents open on that car? Air flow in to the car on breezy days triggers the motion sensors. Used to be a common problem,

    i read that online somewhere, and also if you leave a device plugged into the 12v socket can also trigger it :confused: even with the ignition off
    If it's an independent siren you could just disconnect it

    whereabouts in the engine bay are they usually positioned?

    That wasn't my reply but here's my 2p.
    If it's aftermarket - wherever they found space to mount it.

    His alarm hadn't an independent alarm if it had more than 2 wires to the siren.
    If his alarm was wired properly,car shouldn't start with plug disconnected,so he was lucky.

    How do you know it's aftermarket if you don't see it?
    And how do you set it?

    I'd like to see a better picture of that heavy red & white wire with the tape on it. It's a likely place for a power feed.

    Take it to an in-car specialist. Who on earth would wire an aftermarket alarm system that could be disabled by pulling out a fuse!?

    Would you recommend wiring something without a fuse? :)
    Not a specialist job to disconnect it,just hard to do it without seeing it.

    I'd like to see a better picture of that heavy red & white wire with the tape on it. It's a likely place for a power feed.

    Looks something like the image attached , usually on either wing and normally close to the battery if it's a cheap install.

    easier said than done, its at the very back of the engine bay in a tight corner..i can't get at it :(

    so back to the fusebox, what amperage fuse would be for an alarm 10A 20A ??

    Well imo it looks like an old alarm/cobra , don't hear of them anymore. They came with a master key which you could turn off siren and disconnect. I'm guessing OP does not have key. If it was my car I would start at alarm siren and chase the wires if i did not have key and uninstall and bin it.
    Disconnect battery first.

    An expensive alarm in their day. Cobra,Scorpion & Meta were the big names. A lot of the older ones had backup batteries in them.You'd have to unmount the siren before disconnecting the plug,wrap them in a coat to muffle them. They'd run for an hour before the battery went flat.

    Depends on the fitter. If there is a fuse it's most likely a fuse link in a feed wire - not a factory fuse.
    Did you look at the wire I pointed out earlier? You'll prob need to remove the fuse box facia panel to get a better look. As before,alarm wires will stand out.

    If it's a solid colour wire,it's the alarm feed. If you see a fuse link on it pull the fuse,if you don't unwrap the tape & disconnect the wire. Make sure you retape that heavy wire,it's permanent live & only fused on an 80A fuse.

    You can if you want,but it's not necessary.
