Hi. Can anyone advise the exact diameter of a typical modern 18 inch hot water tank, including the pre-installed (normally green) insulation?

My existing tank is 30 * 18 inches, has no insulation, and seems to be original to the house (32 years). I'm looking to replace it with a larger modern one (say 42 * 18).

Problem is that the hot press doorway is not very wide. I measured just under 24 inches at the narrowest point. Trying to work out if a modern tank would fit through. I have a plumber coming during the week, so will get his input. But appreciate input on my above query.

You are lucky, mine is only 19" wide but the plumbing suppliers were able to get a new twin coil cylinder made to fit at no extra cost.
Standard insulation is 50mm thick so allowing for 60mm max then the diameter of the cylinder at 22.7 inches should still fit comfortably enough.

Thanks guys for your input. Very helpful to have actual measurements. (Strangely, this key info could not be found on any websites).

To be sure to be sure, you or your friendly supplier might measure the circumference of the proposed "green" cylinder and divide this measurement by 3.14 to give the diameter.
