Under resourced gardai

You know, they are so busy they can never respond to crimes such as robberies, car jackings, dangerous driving or whatever else might be happening at the same time. The reason there is delay in response to these events is because we can have 20 Garda cars following each other chasing a reported drug dealer. If you want to rob a bank, you know what to do, report a suspected car to Gardai so they wil send out every single vehicle in 30 mile radius to follow each other in order to somehow help in pursuing a car.

Did I miss something, is there some new technology recently invented meaning that the more Garda cars follow the lead Garda car, horse power of all Garda vehicles increases for every car in the Garda chase convoy?

Anyway, Gardai are under resourced, they can only send 20 cars on a chase instead of the required 50 for a single car. Opinions?

What exactly is under these 'resourced Gardaí' that you're talking about?

Well, at least you've shown (like many others) you have no idea of how official chases are deployed. Plus, it doesn't happen very often really. Been in a few myself, driver for one of them, some buzz chasing them down in fairness, but so, so dangerous. There's a load of cars responding (if available) because there may be a need to peel off and try and block them from the other side. That's just 1 example. There are loads more operational reasons.

You're still right though, the Gardai are very under-resourced for every day policing. Another thing to note is that there may be no Garda to respond because he's dealing with a non-Garda-but-the-Guards-are-required matter, ie: civil disputes. Or, just maybe, they're doing another job, such as another burglary report, or robbery, or most likely theft from a shop. They can't be everywhere, and most stations will prioritise incidents over others depending on immediate threat to life or property. A burglary (ie: breaking into someones house and stealing while no one is there) happens quite often, and take up a lot of time with having to take statements, calling SOC, searching for CCTV in the area and having to call back if no one is home, etc, etc.

Lots of people think they know the job of a Garda. Lots of people don't. Simple as that.

Don't get me wrong, there are waster Gardai out there who do no favour to the rest by being dicks or taking the pish with times. But they are not the norm.

But do continue with the thread, you obviously have a chip on your shoulder over them, and AH is quite good as getting people with one sided opinions to agree with your bashing.

It’s in the Gardaí’s interest to claim they are under resourced

They know that there is a radius of constant crime in Dublin City centre - easily policed by a Ford transit van and about 20 proper front liners - approached easily and quicker on foot or tram, yet they want more cars, cctv, usual nonsense

They know the public will parrot the “resources” excuse rather than question their cowardice

Doesn’t matter, at the end of the day, sure it’s always a civil matter if the offender has 1000 convictions and illegal under section bla if you have no convictions and take matters into your own hands

There is barely a functioning justice system in Ireland

They have to fly x hours a year to keep licences, so it does get sent out. May cost money, but it's also an extremely useful resource thanks to the night vision cameras.

That's about 402 people per Garda. And that doesn't exclude the office based Gardai, of which there are a lot. Back when I was one, the "operational" Gardai was based at about 9000 (including detectives) out of 14000.

Thread closed. OP appears more concerned with the M50 car chase than with any genuine under resourcing of AGS. There is already a thread in CA discussing the car chase.
