    Hi there,

I’m hoping someone might have the answer to this.

My partner from Spain, who is based in Ireland is looking to exchange her full EU license for a full ROI license. We have the steps online to do this, which is fine.

What I would love to know is if the date of issue for the ROI full license will match the full EU license that was issued 2 years ago?

    Thanks 😊

The "date of issue" will be whatever date the physical Irish licence is issued. The "valid from" date for each vehicle category will match the original dates on the Spanish licence. My dates are xx.xx.2017, and xx.xx.1993, respectively.

Thanks so much. That was the only thing we were worried about in terms of trying to find insurance for her. Realty appreciate your help.

No problem. You're probably aware then, that insurance companies ask about this using various wording. Some might say "how long have you held this licence?"

Unless there's another question where I can answer in respect of my original validity dates, I've always interpreted "this licence" to include the original licence.

Yeah that was the main thing we were looking to sort out. For the insurance company it’s asking how long she held that license for so we will put it down as 2 years. When I did it as less than a year it asks when did you pass your test. So I think the best thing to do is say she held the license for 2 years
